We've a few lovely twists in the class at the moment that I hope you've noticed leave you feeling both energised and relaxed in your body and mind. This is because twisting has an enormous physiological and psychological impact. By creating inter-vertebral space and decompression in the spine, twists support spinal nerve health and boost the nervous system to function effectively.
When space between the vertebrae is limited we feel heavy and lacking in energy; prana (life force) becomes blocked and tension builds, leading to a sense of sluggishness. Twisting effectively means first rooting the base of the spine and then lengthening and rotating, which creates space not only for the vertebrae but for prana to flow more freely, giving you an instant boost.
